roland has received palanca, cultural center of the philippines, philippines free press and manila critics' circle national book awards from as well as fulbright, hawthornden castle, st. louis poetry center as well as the all university predoctoral merit fellowships for his creative writing and research. he completed his phd at the university of southern california's film school (steven spielberg is one of their prominent graduates).
immediately after his postgrad at usc, roland returned to teach at u.p. then he took a leave to become visiting professor at osaka gaidai (osaka university of foreign studies, japan). he became an active member of the manunuri ng pelikulang pilipino, the organization of film critics behind the annual urian awards. then he became director of the u.p. film institute. then he became holder of the henry sy professorial chair in the university. then early this year, roland became a distinguished visitor at ucla. currently, he is a visiting fellow and associate professor at the national university of singapore. he will return to teach at u.p. diliman's college of mass communication early next year.

roland tolentino returns to diliman in 2007
